FAQs

Additional information

Are the sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is of paramount importance. All information exchanged during sessions is confidential, as is the content of your file. If disclosure of information is necessary for you (whether for work or for a doctor), your written consent is required. The following are the only situations in which the law overrides confidentiality between client and therapist:

  • Disclosure of a case of abuse or neglect of a child or dependent person in your care
  • If you state that you intend to physically harm another person or an identifiable group of people
  • if you declare that you intend to inflict permanent injuries on yourself that would endanger your life
  • If you are mandated by a court

How long are the sessions?

Sessions last 50-60 minutes and are generally held weekly initially, then twice a week, and in some cases, monthly. Some clients remain in contact as needed. Sessions are always booked by the hour (e.g., 9:00 a.m.) or by the half-hour (e.g., 9:30 a.m.). Sessions do not last a full hour, as accepted psychotherapy methodology dictates that the therapist typically has 10 minutes between each client to write the session notes and prepare for the next client.

Monthly sessions are generally not therapeutically productive. If the session is devoted to the therapist updating them on what has transpired between sessions, the client cannot expect a "productive consultation," as erotic empathy is both process-oriented and experiential. We need time to "do therapy," not just talk during sessions.

Regarding confidentiality, not only what you say in session, but also the therapeutic relationship itself is confidential. Therefore, never assume that a therapist is unfriendly in public; they will gladly return the favor if you initiate it!

When are you available?

The Centre's therapists are not on call and may not always be available. They respond to messages as soon as they are able to do so in a suitable space. Confidential client calls are not taken in public areas. In case of emergency, if the therapist is unavailable, please contact your doctor, your local clinic, or the emergency room.

How is the payment arranged?

Unless otherwise agreed, full payment is accepted on the website to book your appointment. The client is responsible for any fees associated with a bounced check, if applicable. Except in cases of emergency or illness, 48 hours' notice is required to cancel a session without being charged the full session fee.

For free sessions granted to those who are eligible, a missed appointment will result in agreed fees, or cessation of services.

Insurance: Services may be covered in full or in part by your health insurance or benefits plan. Some insurance companies only cover psychologists and social workers, and unfortunately not psychotherapists, but this is increasingly rare. Please check before you book to avoid disappointment.

Please carefully check your coverage by asking the following questions:

Am I covered by mental health insurance?

  • What is the amount of my deductible and have I reached it?
  • How many sessions per year does my health insurance cover?
  • What is the cost per therapy session?
  • Does my family doctor need to give their approval?
